It is open source and for the most part it is free. When software uses open standards, you are not locked into one vendor. If the vendor dissatisfies you for some reason, you can switch vendors more easily.
There are very few viruses that affect Linux. The ones that do need root access. It is relatively easy to keep the viruses from gaining root access.
It is rock solid. You will not suffer from a Blue Screen Of Death.
You will not have licensing issues. You can obtain your ISO of Linux and install it on as many machines as you like.

Linux powers Google, Twitter and Amazon. It powers many web servers. The internet pretty much runs on Linux.
